We have a facebook page called Native Birds of Western Qld that is dedicated to the birds that you will find both here on the campground and in other parts of western Queensland. I have tagged most of the photos with Gidgee's Bush Camp that have been taken here on the campground. There is a special photo album for all the listed birds as well as individual albums for photos of each of the birds.

120 Plus species have been identified on and around the bush camp site. We also have other locations you can visit in the local area. I have been told that 140 species have been identified in the Morven district alone.

Today, almost 1 in 6 Australian birds are threatened with extinction. Our birds are facing growing threats like climate change, fire, habitat loss and predation by introduced species – which is why we're stepping up our conservation here at Gidgee's Bush Camp to protect the birds and educate tourists on the species in our local area.

Many of our birds perform vital roles within our ecosystems: they keep other animals, plants, and insects in balance, spread seeds and pollen to create new life, and maintain healthy habitats.

Under the State Nature Conservation Act 1992 there are currently 49 bird species and subspecies listed as threatened in Queensland in addition to 14 pelagic birds. The following list is derived from the Queensland Department of Environment Land and Water website.

We have been working with birdo's, tourists, and local people passionate about birds and their habitats. We combine the best of conservation practice and sound science to achieve critical changes to the bird populations in the Morven district.

Gidgee Smith Bags & Garden Art

Go to store Go to store

We are extremely proud to make an Australia Made gear bag in the middle of the outback with limited services and internet. We started the business in the Channel Country in 2003 when the drought wiped out our shearing run. We relocated back to my hometown of Morven in 2009 due to work commitments for Mick and schooling for our children. I spent 15 years on the road going to field days all over Queensland and some of NSW, but since starting the bush camp I now only go to a couple of events each year and concentrate on promotion and sales of our bags online. We have over 120 online products that we send all over Australia.

We employ local women from the Morven community and we all work very hard on the quality of the products we make, the speedy turnaround times and great customer service.
